Alatariel and I decided to waste $14 and an afternoon at the Oklahoma Wedding Show. It was interesting, but nothing like I expected.
Since Ala wants to dive into cake decorating and/or wedding gown and Irish dance costume design, we thought this might be a good place to scope out some stuff. To our disapointment, there wasn't a lot of stuff to scope out. Granted, there were a couple of wedding dresses and a few cakes, but nothing I'd want at my wedding.
While admiring an ivory lace wedding gown with a satin belted empire waist embellished with ivory satin roses (which did not come near to matching the dress, by the way), the girl working the booth came up to chat. She said they received many more compliments on the lace dress which came from Spain (how exotic), as opposed to the other dress on display, a simple white satin with crystal and bead adornments, which came from China. China! The conversation went on to designing dresses, and I asked if she did any wedding gown designs. "Oh, no," she said. "Dresses made in the US are too expensive. Almost all of our gowns come from CHINA, and we do the alterations."
How terribly, terribly sad.
I attempted to talk to one woman who does cakes, but she was too busy acting like Queen Latifah to give me the time of day. I might add that her rolled fondant cakes looked like they were covered in play dough. From the look of her prize "creation," it could have been dropped on the floor, swept up and piled back on the cake plate. I kid you not. It was a mess.
Another woman, different booth, was a little more gracious. She actually recommended the Wilton classes at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. Cool.
Now I'd like to brag on my kid for a paragraph.
Before Christmas, we went to Pier 1 to buy some coolie Christmas ornaments. During the checkout process, the girl wrapping the ornaments picked up one before the girl checking the ornaments scanned it. After we left, La asked me to check the receipt to make sure she saw what she thought she saw. Sure 'nough, one was missing from the receipt. I'd long since forgotten about it, but she held on to the price tag from the ornament, and today she reminded me that we should go to Pier 1 and pay for the ornament. So we did. While there, we picked up a few more at 75% off. At checkout, Ala gave the store associate the tag and explained what needed to be done. After the clerk regained consciousness, she thanked us for being honest and considerate, and we concluded our business. All the kudos go the the daughter. She's a pretty good kid.
I went shopping for new running shoes. No, this old, fat lady doesn't run, but ever since I put on a pair of Adidas Oswego shoes years ago and had almost instant relief from crippling plantar fasciitis pain, I've been sold on the arch support and shock absorption of runners. Adidas apparently discontinued Oswego, so another style was in order. I only found one that had decent arch support, and they are Ugg Lee. Or, as my long lost friend Karen used to say, Fugly (use your imagination). Well, if they work, that's what counts. Right? Right!!!
I bought some Nasalcrom today at the recommendation of Friend Jan. I hope it works quickly. I'b biserable.
Hubby did all the laundry for me today while he watched foo'bah. Now I have to go put it all away and make the bed. Yawn.

Chinese wedding gowns, why doesn't that surprise me? They can make them cheap because the wages are so low.
I still have a hard time finding shoes that help my feet. Some are better than others but nothing helps a lot.
Hope you feel better soon!
