Holly Housewife

Just call me June Cleaver... I shampooed carpets today. (insert big cheesy grin here) I only got the hallway and half the dining room done before I pooped out - a little crampy in the back and I'm ready to quit. I'll need to buy more carpet shampoo before I can continue. The sample bottle that came with the cleaner didn't last too long. I gotta tell ya, the dirty water that came out of the carpet looked like chocolate milk. I think my house will have a new and improved fresh scent when I get everything cleaned, if for no other reason than because the shampoo itself smells really nice.

I had a major Senior Moment today. We slept late, me in particular due to being up part of the night with junk food reflux. Breakfast became brunch, and we'd just finished eating, me still sitting at the table in my night shirt and woolie socks, when someone knocked on the door. Hubby looked out the window, a quizzical expressions came across his face, and he said, "Did you call someone to come clean the chimney?" I spit out the s-word, raced for the bedroom to put on clothes, and was totally embarrassed because my house was a total pit. Cat hair all over the floor, I hadn't picked up the things they'd knocked over during the night, dishes in the sink and on the table, dining room a mess because I'd moved furniture to clean carpets. Oh, my. I really dropped the ball this morning.

I don't think it took the fella twenty minutes to brush the ash off the sides of the fire place and announce that everything looked good. Seems like the first time we had it done by the same company, they dragged in some kind of big vacuum thing and made a lot of noise getting the job done. This time it was all very fast and quiet, and I got to pay him two hundred ninety-five dollars for his twenty minutes' time. I'm absolutely in the wrong business.

And another thing.... he'd only done one other job before he came here, and his face, arms and hands were filthy black like he'd been playing in a bag of charcoal. I had to wonder how much of that gets applied at the office before they leave for their daily appointments.....

Next time, I'm getting quotes before I schedule someone.

We need to shampoo our carpets too. It's never been done in this house and Scruffy was sick in several of the rooms. That was cleaned up but I'm sure there's still some residue there.

This is why I love my hardwood floors. I can't wait to rip the rest of the carpet up.

Get a chimney cleaning brush and do it yourself. It's not hard. DH has done ours for years, both here and in NM.

Seriously? I thought you had to be a certified chimnologiest or something. How nearsighted of me to not investigate doing it myself.
