I've discovered some nice places to shop while avoiding Wal Mart.
Aldi grocery stores have been around Tulsa for a few years, but I never bothered to stop and shop. I've been to Aldi twice now, and I've found them to be a nice alternative.
Aldi isn't a shopping mecca. It's rather small, and most food items are not nationally advertised brands. What I've found is quality, for the most part, and really cheap prices. It takes some stern determination to purchase products that don't have a major food logo plastered across the front of the package. I'm glad I've made the change.
Fadler's Market is another jewel. It's a small market store-front for a large warehouse distributor. While it's geared for food service (large packaging), there are a few things we can get there and enjoy at home. I've gotten sliced grilled chicken (fajita style) for $5, comparable in size to Schwan's for $18 with better taste. Some time ago, Kraft decided to reformulate their Seven Seas creamy Italian dressing. We'd used this dressing for 15 years - it's all my hubby would eat. The reformulated product was disgusting.
This afternoon at Fadler's, I spotted a gallon jug of Royal Delux Creamy Italian dressing. It sure looked like the old Seven Seas stuff, so I bought a jug. A gallon of dressing for $10 was a gamble, but hubby's last bottle of Seven Seas was dangerously low. The Royal Delux brand is just like the old Seven Seas dressing. We had salad for dinner. Life is good.

There is a whole world out side of Walmart, hard to believe but it's true. But we go to Walmart anyway. It's closer.
I'll have to see if I can find an Aldi in OKC the next time I go. I wish we had more choices around here.
Right now our WM doesn't carry much in the way of groceries, but when the new store is built it will. All the more reason to avoid it like the plague.
We have a brand spankin' new Wal Mart not far up the road from us - the largest and "greenest" Wal Mart in the state.... still ain't goin' there.
I love the Deer Creek Market in Hydro and would probably do all my shopping there (between trips to OKC) if we ever move there.
I've never been to the Deer Creek Market. I never think of it. I'll have to run over and check it out.
