Meanwhile, Back At The Cat House...

We're slogging right along. This photo was taken last year. It's not quite so bad right now, but it wouldn't take much more.....

Hub called from the Joizee shore (actually not ON the shore, but he's not far from) and told me that there will be an accounting position opening soon at the office. The current person has been accepted into nursing school and will be leaving in August. If this works out, I gotta get my stick in gear, like, now.

My washer is making large puddles on the laundry room floor, and my feeble attempts at repairing it have been in vain. We looked at new washers at Home Depot last night. While I'm so not in favor of front loading washers, the sweet octagenarian salesman made a great case for them, and they have a set that is not much more expensive than the standard middle-of-the-line washer & dryers. My biggest issues is that I hate standing on my head to pull clothes out of the dryer (if I could have a top-loading dryer, I would), and this makes washing and drying a total "stand on my head" experience. Yes, I know pedestals make it less back breaking, but they also make the tops of the washer & dryer too tall to be used as a work surface or junk pile area.

Ya know what else he told me? This one blows my ever-lovin' mind. The feddy govamint is so hell-bent on telling us what to do that, even though the standard top-load washers have a "hot" wash setting, in order to meet the energy savings requirements forced upon the manufacturers, that setting may have been disabled at the factory. The new & improved front load washers will wash with hot water, but since they only use something like 18 gallons of water per cycle rather than 50-some-odd, it's OK. My little mind gets bogged down over washing a king-size comforter in only 18 gallons of water. The darned thing will soak up that much water. What's left for washing? (big sigh.)

I'm open to testimonials from anyone who has a front loading machine.

It's pretty soggy here too. I've never had a front loading machine so no advice there.

I've heard front load washers often develop funky smells because the water doesn't drain right.

We have a front loader and they do indeed use less water. I haven't noticed a difference with the clothes/cleanliness factor, but then M does the laundry (I hate HATE folding laundry)...Ours has managed to build a dark ring under the recessed glass of the door on the drum. I thought it was mildew but apparently we had a pen accident in there. Sigh...At any rate, I love 'em.

As to the work/junk area...Might be a good way to NOT have such a place if it is up higher! On the other hand, bending over to put in and remove laundry could be considered a form of exercise (and if you are like me, that is gasp inducing! LOL).

I especially like that they do use less water. We do all our laundry on the cold setting anyway, unless for a specific reason...

I love the new lilac page here! So pretty!

Funky smell, eh? That's enticing, for sure! My current machine will smell sour if I keep the lid down. It's always up when not in use.

Hub says he's read that they're better. My neighbor has one, and her comment was that it's "ok," but her hubby gets really dirty with his job and she has to soak his clothes in stain remover to get them clean. The occasions that we get really dirty are few and far between. Hubby does a lot of the laundry business, too, so if he's fine with it, then so be it.
