I can't believe I forgot that today is Thankful Thursday! My days have been off this week. I'm sorry!
This morning I went to the county elections board and did my training to be an election worker. I've done this for about ten years, but had sort of resigned when I thought we'd certainly be moving last spring.
I called the Secretary and told her I was still here, could she use me in the upcoming elections? Yes! She was thrilled to have me back. Not only did she need floating inspectors, but she said she was always in need of Republicans.
I'm thankful that I live in a country where we are free to vote for whom we wish (mostly). I'm thankful to have the opportunity to help with the election process. I'm thankful that we don't have a gun pointed to our heads ready to fire if we cast a ballot for the 'wrong' candidate.
I'm thankful that there are people in this world like Irena Sendler who put the welfare of those unjustly persecuted above her own well being. I don't know if I would have the fortitude to do what she did, but I would certainly hope so.
What a shame that the Nobel Prize committee felt Al Gore was more deserving than Irena.

I'm beginning to believe that things like the Nobel Prize have little to do with being worthy and more to do with politics and popularity. It's a shame too.
