It has some serious problems, but I made it!I'm tempted to tear it apart and try to fix it. Then again, I'm tempted to leave it and try to correct the problems on the next one.
Now I'm going to gripe:
Yesterday I was trying to help Ala do some work on her apron. She was working on the bodice and facing pieces. I told her to put the back pieces together the way Mrs. Teacher had her put the front pieces together. When it came time to attach the back to the front, it was all wrong! Mrs. Teacher had been completely off track last week. Well, it's understandable. She was too busy working on her own scrapbook to keep an eye on what her paying student was doing. Ala and I had to pick it all apart and start over.
When we arrived for sewing class this morning, Mrs. Teacher was on the phone. She waved us on back to the classroom. Ala got started on her (now correctly put together) apron, and I waited on Mrs. Teacher to get instructions on the next block.
I waited.
I waited.
I waited.
Forty-five minutes later, she got off the phone and came to class. Well, she was doing church work, so I guess that made it OK.
She showed me the next block and told me what pieces to cut. I cut the squares, sewed the triangles, sliced them apart, and they were too small! I told her I cut them 4.5" like she said. She said: Oh, those need to be 5" to allow for the extra seam.
Sorry about that!Sorry about that? I wasted $10/yard fabric for
Sorry about that???She did the same thing to me last week, too. Told me to cut strips 2" wide when they should have been 1.5. Afterwards she made some remark about how it didn't matter except to someone who's really picky.
Uh, that would be me!
Next week will use up all our paid-fer lessons. That's the last of that nonsense. She got me motivated and got Ala started, so we can take it from here!

I think your block looks great! I'm am sorry that your teacher isn't working out. It sounds like she needs to do one thing or the other, but not both.
Thanks! The points are a little wonky. I have hours of Eleanor Burns and Kay Whatshername on the DVR. It's time for a Quilting Technique Marathon!
Mrs. Teacher served her purpose. I was afraid that teaching Ala to sew would be a battle of wills like some other projects we've done, but she's doing quite well.
The block looks great to me. The teacher doesn't seem very committed to her class which is weird because you paid for it. There are a lot of really good quilting books out there that are helpful.
