It was a long day today. Hubby got started about 9 this morning by burning old hay bales in the pasture. I sorted laundry for Ala who offered to do housework to keep from dodging the bugs outside. I was out the door around 11.
I lobbed branches off bushes and trees around the house with branch cutters until Hubby decided to show me up and fired up the chain saw. He worked on the mess of broken branches from December's ice storm until around 3. He put the chain saw down once and commented that his arms were tired and it was getting hard to hold the chainsaw up. I suggested we quit. Instead, he loaded the chainsaw and pole saw in the truck, and we went to his mother's to work over her trees.
I swear, that man will work until he drops. I kept insisting he stop, that I didn't want a chainsaw oopsie to happen because he was over tired. Did he listen? No. But eventually the pull cord on the chain saw broke, and he was forced to stop. I told him Somebody was telling him it was time to quit. Stubborn old goat, that Hubby of mine.
I got a lot of mess cleaned out of my asparagus patch. I still have asparagus, even after last summer's neglect, bless those little buggers. I also got about half the soil in the vegetable garden turned over. I'm going to be late again getting things planted.
I came around the corner of the house this morning to find Simba had Chester cornered under the back porch. Last night, Simba had Shadow cornered in the top of the tree. Simba has now moved on. I didn't cry this time, mostly because he ran under mom's house so I didn't have to ID the body. When I told Hub where Simba went, he replied, "That's a good place for him to be." We're not bitter.
Hubby is watching "I am Legend." Disgusting. I abandoned him and the movie after about 45 minutes.
I'm pooped. Good night.

My brother used to have a patch of asparagas. Apparently it has to grow for a couple of years before it starts producing. He doesn't have it anymore, I guess they got tired of it. My DH would rather sit in front of the TV than work around the house.
My husband is the same way. Work until you drop or die. Which ever comes first.
My granny had asparagus and I loved being chosen to go harvest it. That was the one chore all of the kids fought over.
It sounds like the cat population is slowly being thinned out at your place. There's one hanging around here causing trouble and he's on my hit list.
I'd rather sit in front of the tv, too.... :)
I've been fixin' to get ready to plant asparagus ever since we moved here in '97. I finally did it last year, so it's still in its development stage. There's a big asparagus farm around here somewhere; I need to pay them a visit soon!
Oh, yeah, about the cats....
There's a new one hanging around here. It looks remarkably like Meep.
If we gain one for every two we clear out, progress will be really, really slow!
