Jo, it was the tip of one of the stems. I thought they were buds and it was going to leaf and bloom in another week or two. But when I looked at the photos I took last year, they were dated April 1. Last year, about mid summer, the leaves started curling, turning brown, and falling off. I hoped it would come back this year but I'm thinking it must have drowned. drown? drownded?
Speaking of curling leaves, one of my forsythia at the east end of the house already has curling leaves, too.
Thanks, SM. It was really pretty and smelled wonderful!
I'm a Wife, Mom, Gran, programmer, student, teacher, craftsman, handyman, musician, gardener, and keeper of the pets. I dabble in a little bit of everything but don't do anything very well. I live a very blessed life for which I'm extremely thankful.

I think I'm confused. Is the little bitty one you posted the same bush?
Wow it was beautiful!
