It's all been a blur, these past few weeks. I don't know how time gets away from me, sitting here in my brown cave, but it does. I've watched the Bradford Pears go from green to firey red to bare in what seems like the space of a day.
We're slowly getting the house cleaned up and put away. I've worked the hubby vigorously during the past two weekends. At one point, he muttered something about going to work to get some rest. :)
I finally settled on a color to paint the kitchen walls - Airy blue. It's a pale, almost white shade of robin's egg turquoise. It's a little strange with the harvest gold, but it's a much needed improvement over cherry red. I paint a little every weekend, then wrap my paint brush up in a baggie (don't have to wash it that way) until the next time.
See those little nuggets in the photo? Those are peppernuts, or pfefferneuse, little spice cookies (don't bite them, they're hard!) that my German Oma made every Christmas. My brother made them for years, having helped make them when she was alive. This year Ala and I took on the task. I'd always heard horror stories about how hard they were to make. With the two of us manning the mixing bowl and cutting board, we completed the project is about four hours.
I have gotten absolutely portly over the past few months. My disorganization has skyrocketed, and the best way to overcome it is to eat out. Not only is it making me a chubolah, but it's a waste of money. That was part of the driving force behind the past two weenends' work - get it under control.
Then, I broke my dryer.
The dumb thing's lint filter doesn't catch all the lint, so every few loads I have to take the screen out, wrap tape (sticky side out) around a coat hanger, and go fishing for lint balls. I did that once last week and forgot to put the screen back in. I think there's a sock lodged somewhere under the drum. I called LG, who set up a repair ticket, and my repair company is an ATV rental place that's about three hours from here. Not getting warm fuzzies over this!

Ei yi yi! Isn't that a new washer/dryer set too? Hopefully they get it fixed pronto. Anyway, I know what you mean about eating out too. Happens to me as well. Sigh...I am imagining your house looking fabulous for the holidays though. It is such a cute little place! Please let Alatariel (L) know that I so appreciated her note too. As to those little cookies, if you can't bite them, how do they work? Truly curious!
Yes, it's the new set! I have drying laundry hanging around the house.
You have to suck on peppernuts and they melt away. I'll send you some to try.
We've managed to put up exactly four strings of lights in the windows of the house. I looked for a nice artificial tree to put in the formal living room, knowing that anything I put in there will be forgotten, so a real tree wouldn't work. Can't find anything to suit my discriminating taste! Right now, the LR is still cluttered with half-unpacked boxes. Maybe next Christmas...
I say that every year. :)
It's good to hear from you, I was beginning to wonder if you were still alive. Hope you have a great Christmas!
You make me laugh, as always. I look forward to the peppernuts (and a huge thank you from this old sweet tooth). If it is any consolation, I have discriminating tastes too! LOLOL (My tree is a little 4 foot green aluminum thing...with green lights and multicolored ornaments and red shiny bead garland...Yes, I've crossed over.)
