Almost Moved

MIL is almost completely moved. She still thinks she has to sort all the junk in her house and discard what she considers rubbish. I keep telling her to walk away from it taking just what she wants, and let us deal with the rest. She has a "friend" who keeps pushing her to sort and box everything, so what MIL doesn't move, the friend can take to Goodwill. I have to wonder if the friend doesn't want to go through MIL's discards for herself. I told MIL for the umpteenth time to leave it, don't take it go Goodwill, we'll sell it for her. Bless MIL's heart. She's going to kill herself trying to do it all.

We had plenty of help loading her few things on Saturday morning, but the folks at the other end who had offered to help unload had mysteriously disappeared when we got there. About an hour down the road I thought to ask MIL if she had her house key. Well, guess what? AAAGH!

Once at the retirement center, we were able to get a loaner key for the day. Good thing. I would have been royally disgruntled if we'd had to drive back here to get her key.

All was unloaded easily enough. While I thought I'd have a screaming back, I never had a twinge.

MIL's king bed wouldn't come close to fitting in her junior-sized apartment, so we'd offered to let her have La's full bed that's in storage. Unfortunately, it had gotten wet during one of the flood events we've had over the past year or two, and one end of the bed was pretty ugly. We took MIL to Mattress Brothers (pun intended) to buy her a new bed. Dealing with those people was an experience I won't soon wish to relive. Let's just say that I'm not so stupid as to think that "SET" excludes box springs when referring to bedding. Apparently the salesperson didn't get it.

We had lunch at Shorty Smalls - not one of my favorite places to dine, but Hubby seems to like it (don't understand why). The service was so incredibly slow, it took over thirty minutes just to get our food. Had we been there during the dinner hour, I would understood. We were there at 3 in the afternoon. It was all just retarded.

We finally got the bed in the apartment, got her furniture arranged, and I have to say, it's small but looks very nice! She's happy with it, and that's important. While we were there, three people stopped by to introduce themselves. I think MIL will have a host of new BFF's very soon.

On Friday, I'll drive her over with the final batch of stuff, and Hubby will pick me up on his way home. Then I can start on MY move! I'm ready.

It sounds as though this move went wonderfully for your MIL. Can't ask for more than that and I do so hope she makes and keeps new friends right away.
