Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod went to the vet today. We decided to invest in immunizations for the pups. While there, I inquired as to whether the pups may already have been altered. The vet reached underneath one of the males and said, "No, they're right here in my hand. Here..." holding up the dog's tail, "you can see them right here. See?" Well, I didn't really want to look, but yes, the family jewels are intact.
I also asked if they guys looked to be full-blood Labs. The vet said, "Yes, I'd say they're Labrador Retrievers, but you'd better get rid of them fast before they start to look like something else!" Well, okay.
When it came time to pay the lady, Kim asked if I had named the dogs. Well, of course I have (to Hubby's dismay): Princess Caribou, Tucker, and Angus.
After all was done and paid-fer, the vet gave me a big hug. He said he thinks a lot of me for taking care of all the stray/dumped pets that show up on our doorstep. I think he likes the steady flow of income that I provide.
Therapetics turned down the pups because they couldn't be guaranteed generations and generations of good health in their ancestry. Whatever. Even ancestry doesn't guarantee the pups' good health.
Oh, and goody-goody, we've been adopted by another cat. He's an ugly, beat up old thing, but he's sweet as the day is long. He showed up nasty-dirty, scratched up, and appears to have an abscess on one jaw. He was wearing a collar with a bell on it. Poor baby! Today he managed to get one front leg through the collar and I ended up cutting the thing off. Uh... the collar, not the leg. I was a little afraid he'd bite because I was manhandling him a bit, but he was very still while I hacked away at the collar with a dull pair of shears. He's tried to come in the house once or twice. I haven't decided whether to save him or put him out of his misery. We all know I need another cat to feed.

Annie, I love you. That your heart is big enough to take on the strays says so much about you. Have I mentioned that we have 4 dogs and 3 cats? We cannot go into any place that has animals for sale as I just want to rescue them. My neighbor also loves animals and feeds a stray cat that someone left dumped and homeless here. One of the oppossums around here (that we think lives under our shed) shares the kitty food and is often seen up on her porch partaking. Princess Caribou, Tucker, and Angus??? I rather liked Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod! LOLOL We keep our vet in business too. Thank God for multi-pet discounts!!! Those puppies look purebred to me and I can't fathom why someone has not missed them. Maybe they dumped them because they couldn't sell them? People are so cruel and don't think that animals have feelings. We both know they do! Labs are actually really good dogs, though puppy days are a bit of a rough go. A friend of mine has 2 of them and I love her boys so much! They will love you and protect you; this I know. Methinks DH needs to remember that whether he knows it or not, this is one of those things that made him love you!!! LOLOL
Bless your heart. You've certainly done more than your share for the pet population.
You could start your own animal sanctuary, make it a non profit thing and take donations. I think it's so cool that you take them in.
Such kind words from Autumn Leaves! Thank you! I get all teary-eyed to see the kitties in tiny cages at the pet stores.
Hubby has given me strict instructions: Next time I pass an animal on the side of the road, keep on going! I still have 15 cats in the house, maybe a dozen feral outside cats that I feed plus the new Stranger In Town, the Porkie Yorkie, Old Dutch the big black Lab, and now the Lab babies. If I could cut the animal population by 1/2, I've save a ton of money!
I have already considered the animal shelter idea, SchnauzerMom!
