Not Really In The Mood

Not for this weather. Nope. I'm not. Lucky for me, I have no where to go until Thursday, so the mess should be gone by then.

I'm ready for another day like Thursday, when Hubby and I sat outside in short sleeves, watched the cats play, and enjoyed the gorgeous almost-80-degree afternoon.

Back to dreary today... Ala's ortho appointment was at 9:45 this morning, and went without a hitch. Well, if you call waiting in the lobby for an hour before she was called back for her appointment "without a hitch."

Afterwards, we stopped by the home of a dance friend who has moved on to pom and other dance activities, and we bought her school dance dress. I was seriously not excited to try to make one for Ala, and was happy to find one that fit well and didn't require a stitch from me! I am sad that the friend has stopped Irish dance, as she's an awesome dancer. However, Mom said she was ready to try something new after years of jigging and reeling. We hope she eventually comes back to Irish.

By the time we got back on the road, it was raining steadily, and parked cars were icing over. We went on to the leg-doctor appointment, despite my growing angst over the weather.

Ala came out of the doc's office with removable casts on both legs. Doc said the MRI showed definite signs of fracture recovery, so his goal is to take the stress off her lower legs to speed the healing. She's quite unhappy with her new "ski boots." He's still puzzled as to why she is so slow to heal, and mentioned a bone density test, followed by medication if her density is too low. If he says the F-word (Fosamax), I'll be unhappy.

Three o'clock when we left the doctor's office. Northbound 169 is closed both directions due to ice and wrecks, the highways running through town have accidents at every overpass, and the radio told me to take city streets to get home. Duh. I was gonna do that to begin with. 169 has a long, high, curved overpass that I don't like to drive when it's dry. I sure won't chance it in ice!

I took Memorial toward Bixby, and three or four miles down the road, traffic came to a halt. Turns out to be a seven car pile-up on the river bridge in Bixby. We turn around, back track, and go to Jenks where we cross the river. Traffic in Jenks is bumper to bumper, so I took a couple of neighborhood streets to bypass some of the congestion. Decided to call Hubby, as it's not 4 PM, and let him know we're OK.

By the time we made it to Glenpool, I heard that the wreck in Bixby was finally cleared up. Glad I went another direction. I'd still be sitting in Bixby if I hadn't.

Another mile down the road, I heard that there was now a new five car pile-up on the Bixby bridge. Gee, folks. Get a clue.

We made the ten mile drive south from Glenpool with no problems, but when I slowed on the highway to turn onto the county road, we slid a little. About that time I heard that there were a number of pile-ups on the highway from where we'd just driven. Guess we timed it just right.

All in all, we arrived home save and sound, the 35 minute drive taking about 2 hours 15 minutes. I was rubber-kneed and exhausted when we got home, where Hubby met me at the door with, "What's for dinner?"

What's for dinner huh. He should have had it made, lol. Sounds like a rough trip. Okies don't seem to know how to drive on ice and snow. There have been a lot of wrecks here. We stayed home today.
