Craft Crazy!

I watch quilting programs regularly (when the DVR doesn't hiccup and forget to record them). It's a source of inspiration - I see several things weekly that I have to buy! One is the Clover mini iron. It's excellent for pressing little seams in tight places, like a pieced quilt or little bias strips. I found the set pictured here on Ebay. After investigating what it would cost me at any particular hobby store, I decided to place a max bid that was $20 less than retail. I won it with an extra five to spare. Ebay rocks!

This particular iron has interchangeable tips, and comes with two. A third that I'd like to get later would be the ball tip, suitable for gathered areas.

Yesterday, Alatariel and I had an awesome shopping day. We hit Hobby Lobby, Hancock's, and Quilt Sampler. Hancock's had some nice pieces on the remnant table, and we picked up several pieces for $1/yd. Some are big enough to make clothing items, others are small and will go in the quilt stash. We found several patterns to purchase at the next 5/$5 pattern sale. I picked up a cutting mat at Hobby Lobby with my 40% off coupon. I have one mat, but it's pretty big. This one is smaller and suitable for little cuts.

While at the quilt store, I found out that my class next week will probably be canceled. There is only one other person signed up, and they require 4 to make the class. Ala found some quilts on display that she expressed interest in making. I offered to let her take the Quilting 101 class in place of mine. Q101 lasts 4 weeks, and when the class is finished, you leave with a completed quilt. She has decided to take the class! How cool is that! She's never operated a sewing machine, so I probably need to get her to sewing some scraps just so she'll have a feel for it.

This evening I did the ties in two baby blankets. One I'll give to #1 son. The other I'll either sell or give to the neighbor. Her baby is 5 months old and I haven't even been over to see it! No wonder I don't have many friends!

Wow you got some great stuff. I haven't bought any material in a long time. SIL gave me a whole bunch of fabric scraps that belonged to her MIL. So I have enough to last a while. But I still love to look. I'm glad your daughter is interested in learning to make a quilt. She'll get hooked on it I'm sure.

My ex-DIL said she'd give me some of her late grandma's stash. Grandma was a seamstress and kept everything. I'm thrilled! Fabric and crafty things are my OCD. I can never have enough. Hubby just rolls his eyes when I walk in with yet another bag of fabric.

Cool!

I'm glad Ala is interested in makinga quilt. All it takes is one and you're hooked.

So am I. She's been after me to teach her to sew. The only problem is the equation:

Annie + Ala + Teaching = Bad Idea

This will get her started with both sewing & quiltin, and I won't have to fight with her.
