There's more!
My life is like an infomercial. You get thirty-seven super sharp stainless steel knives, and chopper, a butcher block cutting board, and a nifty storage box, all for $19.99. But wait!
Yah, that's me. I'm waiting for the next great deal.
The day that we moved back, Hubby couldn't be with me to help direct the moving operations. He took his mother to the doctor for tests. MIL had been feeling poorly for quite some time. It seems that no tests could conclusively diagnose why she was having such trouble. Her doctor had asked her to have a bone marrow test done as her white blood cell count was high. MIL was afraid the test would be painful, so she had declined having it done for several months. Round after round of tests over the course of months failed to find anything. On this particular day, her doctor finally convinced her to do the bone marrow test. Some days later, she went in for the procedure, and afterwards said it was remarkably pain free. She went back for results around the first week of May, and was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. This is basically an old people's disease, and at MIL's 92 years of age, it wasn't a huge mystery that she'd developed it. The problem, though, was that she'd gone so long before being diagnosed that the disease, which is generally curable when caught early, was advanced and the outlook was not good. MIL was admitted to the hospital that day, and three weeks later, she died in her sleep.
Did I mention that we had just moved? That I packed everything myself? Did I mention that we are, still today, climbing over boxes stacked in our house? Once MIL was admitted to the hospital, there was a lot of time spent driving to the city to stay with her. After her death, I got to go pack her apartment at the retirement complex. Deja vu? I think so!
We finally moved her belongings last weekend, brought them to her old house here on the farm, and there are boxes and boxes of stuff that I have no idea what to do with. First things first, though. I'm finally going to get my house unpacked and put away!
