Another 365 days have come and gone. Today is supposed to be a day of new beginnings and fresh starts.
Huh? Who came up with that idea, anyway? Considering thousands of people in this country will wake up with a hangover....
Last year I resolved to get my house in shape and keep it that way. I accomplished cleaning the living room and kitchen to sparkling, and it was all I could do to maintain those two rooms. I never got past them and into the next part of the house. Eventually, I grew tired of being the cleaning police, and things swarmed to their usual state of chaos. Now what?
Maybe I'll try it again.
Get this... we have collected so much junk and clutter that hubby is talking about renting a roll-off container so we can clean out the house and clean up the yard. I think it's a stellar idea! Tomorrow I'll call around and see where to get one.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we cleaned out the storage building yesterday (it was bursting at the seams) and took a lot of stuff to Goodwill. Apparently yesterday was quite a busy day at Goodwill. There was even a spot on the news about donations, and workers stayed at the drop off location until midnight so you could get that 2007 tax deduction.
Unfortunately, they weren't taking Christmas trees. I have a cute little artificial tree that apparently we won't be using any more. Since Alatariel found such immense pleasure in having a live tree, hubby has loaded the fake tree into the back of the truck and is waiting for me to decide where it needs to go for its final resting place.
I've been reading the Elm Creek Quilt books. I've actually finished the first one (an accomplishment for me). It made me cry. I'm so sappy sometimes. It's also made me want to learn to quilt. Again. I have stuff, I just never sit down and figure it out. JoAnn's was having a moderate sale on fabrics, including a 50% off thread special, so yesterday I conned hubby into dropping me off there while he went to Barnes and Noble. After he perused the computer books for a while, the came to JoAnn's to find me. As we waited in line to have my fabric choices cut, I asked him if he wanted me to write a check or use a charge card. He said oh, write a check. He didn't expect me to spend $100, however. He was choking and gasping all the way out the door. As we got to the truck he made some comment about "I thought fabric was cheap." Not any more it isn't; not even when it's on sale... or when I buy two spools of every color thread on the rack.
For now, I've been requested to sort laundry and fix breakfast. Then I'll decide how I want to spend my next 365 days. Whatever I decided, I don't think it's going to be fun.

I completely understand your hubby about the fabric. It's so darned expensive even on sale. I avoid the local quilt shop most of the time because her fabric, while very nice, is just too rich for my blood.
So what kind of quilt do you want to make?
Hmmmm... I want to make one with no points, no corners, no curves, no bias edges, and all hand stitched. And king size. Yeah. One for my bed.
Ha! Ha! Ha!
I'm thinking I might do a sampler, start simple, and see what happens. Maybe start with log cabin, fence row, court steps, double nine... If all the blocks are different, I might not get bored with it.
Maybe we should open a fabric shop some day....
