Bye Bye Trees!

We'll be enjoying a lot more sun this summer! My big trees were all trimmed by Mother Nature this week. Seeing how these big guys snapped like twigs, I'm glad we'd cut back the limbs that hung over the house a couple of years ago.

We started getting icy Sunday afternoon, and sometime in the middle of the night, the power went out. Thank goodness for fireplaces! We spent Monday, Tuesday, and the better part of today in close proximity to the flames. The power came back on this afternoon. It was a relief, but a disappointment all the same. Our primitive holiday is over. Hubby is working again, and I'm doing laundry, cooking, cycling dishes through the dishwasher, and hanging out on my laptop.

My house is a disaster. We pulled furniture around the fireplace. There was no dish washing. Hubby tracked mud through the house while bringing in icy, wet, dripping, sloppy firewood. Well, the floor will mop. I'm glad we had wood.

When we bought this place, Hub wanted total electric because he didn't want to mess with propane. After this adventure, I told him next house will at least have a gas range. I think a large generator is on my Christmas list, too!

In all, it was kinda fun. No computer, no work, no TV except for a little battery powered portable. We read, played games, got bored, cooked over the fireplace (had some awesome steaks and baked potatoes), and slept very well under layers and layers of blankets. I think I might program the thermostat to about 58 degrees for sleep.

There was no Big Birthday Night on the Town (we hadn't bathed for a couple of days and weren't really presentable). I went to Mounds and got the best pizza in the world from Simple Simon's. We ate it in front of the fireplace while watching Nicholas Nickelby on my laptop. Unfortunately, the battery died in the middle of the movie. We're going to try again tonight. My son called to wish me happy birthday. So did Aunt Jo. For all its inconveniences, this was probably one of the best birthdays ever.

Wow you got hit really hard. We had a little ice, some people lost power but we didn't. I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday anyway. Our house is all electric so when the power goes out we got to relatives.

I'm glad that you were only without electricity for a little while. Too bad about the trees. We lost a couple of big branches.

I'm happy to hear you had a good birthday and sorry I didn't get to talk to you. :)
