Ever tried Google Earth? It's pretty interesting.
When we moved here, the only neighbors we had were MIL and the house directly west of us. I should have scooched the view over a bit to include the rest of the houses that have gone in to our east.
It's not a pretty, quiet countryside any more. Lots of mobile homes with junk cars and one junk school bus parked around (no covenants in the country!), motorcycles and four wheelers, monster trucks that fire up at 6 AM every morning..... More scary is that the 98 acres across the road is for sale. I can imagine nineteen five-acre plots full of junk cars and four wheelers. Utopia has slipped away.
So, how do I go about getting this place sold and buying another, all around the same time? I don't think anything befuddles me more than what happens between the time that we sell this place and when we find our new home. Most things I take a day at a time, whatever happens, happens. This boggles me. I guess I need the assistance of a real estate shark. That's scary, too. While the boss' house is ours for the taking, we can't take it until this is gone. If it takes months to sell this, I don't know if the boss is willing to wait. He wants his money now.
I guess I'd better make use of this morning's quiet time to get some cleaning/sorting/discarding/packing done. I think I'll pack the sewing room. I'm not getting much time in there these days, so may as well get it in order.

The timing can be tricky.
When we decided to sell and move here the first thing we did was start looking here for a house. Once we found the house and started the offer process we got our house there on the market. God was smiling on us because it was on the market 9 days and sold without a realtor.
We agreed on a closing date with both seller and buyer and didn't have much wiggle room.
DH's dad offered to loan us the money for this place until we got paid for the other, but then backed out at the last minute. He thought he'd force us to stay. We ended up going to the bank and getting a short-term loan (45 days) to pay for this place.
We closed on this house November 3rd and the house in NM on December 14th.
I wish I could tell you it wasn't stressful, but that would be a lie. I don't remember much of November or December of that year. I do remember the constant knot in my stomach that came from owning two houses in two different states, having every penny tied up, and owing the bank a small fortune.
Somehow it works out.
We've been through that. Selling one house while buying another. We made payments on two houses for a couple of months. I was VERY stressed. I hope you sell your's quick!
Because of the stress of the possibility (not to mention the reality) of two loans, I've never wanted to look until we accepted an offer on our place. If the boss' place is gone by the time your place sells, I think it would be fun to find another place that you love. You gotta do what you gotta do. And by the way, I love rural areas! Now I have to check out where I live from the aerial view! Thanks!
