Not today. My child has become a fabric monster like her mommy. I took her to Hancock's today (1/2 off grand reopening sale for the newly remodeled store in The Farm). We came home with two large bags full of fun stuff. Sadly, none of the quilting cottons were on sale, which were the only fabrics we bought. Go figure.
Today was the last sewing class. Ala took some fat quarters and a pattern for a fat quarter bag to work on today. Mrs. Teacher read the instructions to Ala for cutting the FQ's to size, set her up on a mat with a cutter, and then started showing me her album quilt blocks.
Ala cut her FQ's the wrong size. Mrs. Teacher didn't show her how to stabilize the ruler, hold the cutter, or measure the fabric on the mat. I was not a happy camper. Nope. I wasn't. I was nice, however, because she had other students in the room today; Newbies who were sewing puckered seams while Mrs. Teacher showed me her scrapbooking software.
I just don't get it.
So, here's the quilt block I started today:Now, when these pieces of fabric were stacked together, I though it might look ok.... fishing, sunlight, blue water. When I got the pieces together, the blue was absolutely garish. Not the effect I was going for.
So, while Hub sat outside and had his cigar this evening, I sat outside and ripped apart seams. I think I'll try this, instead:Still not great, but it at least it doesn't burn my eyes! Oh, ya - those little green & gold half triangles were pieced using the Eleanor Burns method. I was so proud of myself, I didn't even show Mrs. Teacher how I did it.
Now I'll bore you with some kitty pictures.
Ala was trying to clean the kitten's bathroom (ugh, nasty job) and Chester Pester was doing what he does best, being a pest.Polly Pocket:
The feral babies came up on the back porch to eat this evening. Time to start catching them, too.
Work at 7 a.m. tomorrow. Blah.

Buying quilt material is a lot of fun! Very addicting. Your blocks look pretty to me. Love the kitty photos.
Thanks, Schnauzermom!
Very pretty. I don't think the blue is bad.
Of course, the kitties are adorable. I love the sink shot.
The blue isn't bad in the picture, but in person it would make your eyes hurt.
Chester Pester is a head case.
